BMP community conversation to begin soon
February 26, 2008
Best Management Practices are one of the most discussed landscaping topics at Lake Tahoe. To help homeowners, specialists and officials come to a common understanding about how to encourage and regulate them more effectively, OurTahoe.org is facilitating a BMP forum this spring.

The project is designed to foster a more vibrant community conversation about BMP issues. It will involve a series of meetings (face-to-face and online) in which five specialists (experts, officials and policymakers) and five homeowners will engage in conversation and discuss their experiences and feelings about implementing the practices. The aim of the project is to foster community listening, collaborative planning and collective problem solving.
Specialists are represented by a small group of officials from the TRPA, the Nevada Tahoe Conservation District, Tahoe community leaders and the University of Nevada, Reno.
Five citizens from East and South Lake, who have not implemented BMPs but who care about what happens at the lake and want to make a difference, have also been identified. However, anyone interested in this project is still welcome to join.
The meetings will be facilitated by a graduate student from the Reynolds School of Journalism at the University of Nevada, Reno and covered by the Tahoe Bonanza, Sierra Sun and Tahoe Daily Tribune. Online discussions will take place on OurTahoe.org.
Homeowners who agree to participate in this project commit to being present at four one-hour meetings this spring in a community room at the North Tahoe Conservation District in South Lake Tahoe. To be able to continue the conversation online on OurTahoe.org, residents need to have Internet access.
