You are also invited to attend the meeting in person Thursday, May 8 at 6 pm at the North Tahoe Conference Center in Kings Beach. The public is invited to hear the recommendations of the forum and to provide feedback and comments. Online participation is also encouraged on the OurTahoe.org BMP Talks Forum.
BMPs are obligatory landscaping regulations designed to prevent erosion and improve lake clarity. However, compliance with BMPs by Tahoe property owners is very low (less than 20% of residential properties in the Basin have installed BMPs).
Live streaming video from the meeting will be provided on OurTahoe.org on this page: http://208.96.4.228/15834-33563 beginning at 6 pm Thursday, May 8.
In this project specialists from five agencies (e.g. TRPA, Nevada Tahoe Conservation District, Tahoe Resource Conservation District, and UNR) and five citizens who have not implemented BMPs, yet care about the environment, had an opportunity to discuss ways to improve BMPs. Over the past two months they met in three face-to-face meetings to discuss issues, and had a chance to deliberate in an online forum hosted by OurTahoe.org. The forum was organized by Ourthoe.org as an experiment in facilitating community deliberation.
Residents who have questions about BMPs are especially invited to attend the May 8 meeting at 6 pm, which will be held at the North Tahoe Conference Center, 8318 North Lake Boulevard (Highway 28), Kings Beach, California 96143. Door opens at 5.45 pm, presentation starts at 6pm.
