Juan Luna talks about BMPs

 Juan Luna, owner of the Luna Enterprises, Inc., has been working in the landscaping business for 16 years. He specializes in building Best Management Practices, land administration systems required by the TRPA in order to prevent run-off and erosion, and increase lake clarity.

Luna coordinates with John Cobourn, a BMPs specialist from UNR Cooperative Extension Office, to host BMPs classes for Hispanic community in Lake Tahoe.

BMPs five easy steps to follow:
* Vegetate and mulch bare soil
* Stabilize steep slopes with vegetation and structures
* Pave and properly drain unpaved driveways
* Collect and direct runoff from rooftops and pavement to shallow infiltration systems where the water can soak into the ground
* Install gravel, rocks, or other materials under the drip line of a home, allowing the water to be filtered and preventing it from running off the property and flowing to the lake

BMPs tips:
* TRPA is the regulatory agency responsible for the enforcement of BMPs
* Fines might be assessed if residents don’t complete the recommended installation
* North Tahoe Conservation District and Tahoe Resource Conservation District are agencies helping residents install BMPs
* Request a free BMP site evaluation from NTCD/TRCD/TRPA.
* After an evaluation is completed on your property do the work or contact local contractors to perform the work
* Have an erosion control specialist perform the evaluation on your property
* Call to request a final evaluation of your property and to receive a Certificate of Completion
